Hygiene and Safety Standards
Do We Reuse Wax or Sugar?
No. We never reuse wax or sugar. Hello Sugar follows all Board of Cosmetology standards:
-
Fresh wax/sugar is used for every client.
-
Gloves and table paper are replaced between services.
-
Non-disposable tools are sanitized thoroughly with Cavicide or Barbicide after each use.
Waxing and Sugaring Techniques
Do We Pull Hair Against the Direction of Growth?
-
Waxing: Yes.
-
Sugaring: No. Hair is removed in the natural direction of growth for less irritation.
What Kind of Wax is Used for Brows?
Hard wax is used for eyebrow waxing.
Does Lower Leg Waxing Include the Knees?
Yes. Lower leg waxing includes the knees and goes down to the ankles.
Client-Specific Scenarios
Can a Client Get Waxed During Their Period?
Yes, as long as the client wears a clean tampon during the service.
Can a Client Be Waxed with Ingrown Hairs or White Bumps?
Yes. The esthetician should be informed beforehand. They will work around sensitive areas, exfoliate gently, and avoid inflamed spots.
Is Extraction Included with Brazilian Waxing?
No. Extraction is not included in standard Brazilian waxing services.
It is only included in the Brazilian Enzyme Treatment.
Can Someone with Trichotillomania Get Waxed?
Yes. We can remove remaining hairs. However, due to the plucking behavior associated with trichotillomania, hair regrowth may be uneven.
Can Clients with Bacterial Infections or Who Are Immunocompromised Get Waxed?
Clients should obtain clearance from their doctor before booking, especially if they are immunocompromised or have any active infection.
Can Clients with an STI or STD Get Waxed?
Not during an active infection. Clients must wait until it has fully cleared and, if they were on antibiotics, wait 14 days from their last dose before receiving waxing services.
Can We Wax a Client Who Took a Z-pack (Antibiotic)?
No. Clients must wait 14 days after completing the antibiotic course before their waxing appointment.
Skin Reactions and Aftercare
Can Waxing Cause Dark Shadows Like Shaving?
No. Waxing removes hair from the root, so it does not leave the same shadow effect as shaving.
Clients should be advised to avoid sun exposure and to use sunscreen post-treatment to prevent pigmentation.
When Can Waxing Be Done After Using Retinol?
Clients must stop using retinol at least 7 days before their waxing appointment.
If the product is a low-dose retinol used infrequently, body waxing is generally considered safe—but facial waxing should still be approached with caution.
Do We Wax Clients with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS)?
Yes, we do.
